Project Description:

Applicant proposes 3 year treatment plan to eradicate the existing Phragmites australis in ten acres of NYSDEC regulated freshwater and tidal wetlands in Beaver Dam creek to promote revegetation of the area with native Spartina, beginning in the Fall of 2010. In the first and second years the area will be sprayed with the herbicide "Aquamaster" using an all terrain vehicle. Hand-wicking of herbicide will be conducted in areas with non-target species. Three to five months after application the treated areas will be mowed. In the third year persistent stands will be spot treated with the herbicide by hand. Project is located on Bay Avenue in the Hamlet of Brookhaven.

The applicant proposes the restoration of a portion of the northeast branch of the Nissequogue River consisting of: the removal of 448 cubic yards of accumulated sediments from a 1,200 linear foot stretch of the river utilizing a portable, floatable suction device operating entirely within the stream channel; removal of stands of Phragmites and Japanese Knotweed located to the northeast of Harcourt Avenue; installation of stormwater dry well and vegetated drainage swale to remove sediments from stormwater generated by Harcourt Avenue; installation of stormwater control measures at Gedney Avenue; removal of dumped yard refuse at the ends of Brilner Drive, Gedney Avenue and Harcourt Avenue. The project area is located at the Northeast Branch of the Nissequogue River between NYS Route 347 and Harcourt Avenue, Town of Smithtown, Suffolk County.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to install an 8' diameter Downstream Defender Water Quality Treatment Device and a 70' outfall pipe with a rip-rap apron at the outfall. A new 20' x 20' recharge basin is proposed to be created and planted with native grass and shrubs. A stone weir and bio-fiber rolls are proposed to be installed at the downslope end of the recharge basin. The purpose of the project is to mitigate recurrent flooding conditions on Claypit Road which render the road impassable. The proposed project is located at the intersection of Claypit and South Country Roads in Speonk in the Town of Southampton, Suffolk County, SCTM# 0900-0368 (municipal roadway).
