Project Description:

The Department has prepared a draft air permit and has made a tenative determination to issue a new Air State Facility Permit for the proposed Synergy Biogas, LLC renewable energy facility located at 6534 Lemley Road in the Town of Covington, Wyoming County, NewYork. The Synergy Biogas Plant produces biogas by anaerobic digesting of approximately 80,000 gallons per day (gpd) of manure from on-site and approximately 40,000 gpd of food grade organic waste rmanure fromoff-site. Biogas is then combusted in a reciprocating engine that drives a generator to produce electricity. The biogas is pretreated by a desulfurization unit to clean the gas stream prior to combustion in the engines. In addition, the engine exhaust is treated by an oxidation catalyst prior to emission to the atmosphere to reduce CO and VOC emissions. The facility is also required to obtain a beneficial use determination pursuant to 6 NYCRR Part 360 (Solid Waste Managzement).
