Permit(s) Applied for:

Article 24 Freshwater Wetlands
Article 15 Title 5 Stream Disturbance
Section 401 - Clean Water Act Water Quality Certification

Project is Located:

Pound Ridge, Westchester County

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to re-route a 140 foot long portion of the East Branch of the Mianus River, a seasonally intermittent Class AA Special stream, as part of improvements to the fifth hole fairway at Rockrimmon Country Club. This portion of stream is also a finger of NYS Freshwater Wetland D-47 (Class 2) which connects an in-stream pond (not wetland) to the main body of the wetland. The stream currently flows out of the in-stream pond, during high flow periods, via two perched culverts, which prohibit upstream migration of wildlife. The new channel is designed to accomodate upstream migration of wildlife, including amphibians. The new channel is to be constructed approximately 70 feet south of the existng channel and will be approximately 220 feet long. The stream channel will include transplanted wetland vegetation and will remain seasonally intermittent. The dimensions of the new stream channel/wetland area will result in the creation of approximately 7,000 square feet of wetland to mitigate the 2,800 square feet of wetland to be lost. Also proposed is the construction of a golf cart path and bridge over the newly constructed stream channel/wetland area resulting in approximately 640 square feet of disturbance to the 100 foot adjacent area.
