Project Description:

The applicant proposes to stabilize the shoreline by extending stone rip-rap along the shoreline of Great South Bay an additional 35 feet, and installing 175 feet of gabion baskets, 140 feet of staked fiber rolls and fill behind the fiber rolls along the western shoreline of East Canal. Installation of the rip-rap, fiber rolls and fill will result in the loss of approximately 735 square feet of tidal wetlands known as shoals and mudflats/littoral zone (SM/LZ). The applicant also proposes to plant the fill area with tidal wetland vegetation and replace 612 square feet of wood walkway with vinyl grated walkway. The project is located at 505 East Drive, Copiague, Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, SCTM # 0100-184-2-32.

Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was not performed.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is located in a Coastal Management area and is subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than May 28, 2009.
