Project Description:

The applicant proposes to increase the capacity of two existing wells from 650 gpm to 1,000 gpm. The wells are part of the Moriches-Westhampton Low water supply system which serves the area south of Sunrise Highway from Mastic to East Quogue. The proposed project is an effort to proactively revitalize and stabilize the water supply system. Seventeen of the 34 wells that currently make up the system were put into service over 20 years ago, and the proposed increase in well capacity will help to insure an adequate supply of water for both residential demand and fire protection in the service area. The proposed project is located at the Malloy Drive well field on the southeast corner of the intersection of Malloy Dr. and Emmett Drive in East Quogue, Town of Southampton, Suffolk County, WSA #10115.

The applicant proposes an existing discharge of 12,600 gallons per day of laundromat wastewater to groundwater from an Aquarelle Generation III filtration system at the applicant's facility located at 585-15 Route 112, Patchogue, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County. The applicant plans to continue to operate a laundromat. The department has made a tentative determination to issue a modification to the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit under Article 17 of the Environmental Conservation Law. This tentative determination indicates that the discharge under this statute is considered to satisfy regulatory standards for permit modification, based on information available to the Department at this time. As a tentative determination, the Department seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit modification. As such, this tentative determination does not signify department approval for, or endorsement of, the activity for which a permit modification is sought or for the overall proposed project. The existing discharge is located within an area designated as a sole source aquifer. Project Description:

The applicant proposes to demolish an existing dwelling, concrete patio and accessory buildings, abandon the existing septic system and construct a new dwelling with porch and deck, septic system and driveway within the adjacent area of a NYSDEC regulated freshwater wetland (Wildwood Lake - FW# R-10). A buffer area will be established with plantings of native species. The dwelling is proposed to be constructed within thirty feet of the freshwater wetlands, the septic system is proposed within forty-eight feet of the freshwater wetlands, and the drive is proposed to be located within six feet of the wetlands. The proposal will also require a permit pursuant to the Wild, Scenic, and Recreational Rivers System Act, as the parcel is located within the Peconic River corridor. Variance from the setback from the tributary bank has been requested. The project is located at 125 Old Westhampton Road, Riverhead, Town of Riverhead, Suffolk County, SCTM# 0900-181-8-5.1.
