Project Number: 2008-300

Project Title: National Grid

Location: This section of the 115Kv transmission line starts in Whitehall and ends in Moriah. The transmission line consists of 42 circuit miles of transmission lines. The project is located along NYS Routes 9N and 22 in the Towns of Moriah, Crown Point, Ticonderoga, Dresden and Putnam, in Essex and Washington Counties, New York.

For Adirondack Park Agency: Comment Period Ends: April 2, 2009

Project Description: The action involves the replacement of existing utility pole structures which are part of a 115 Kv transmission line with new utility pole structures greater than 40 feet in height, some involving temporary wetland impacts for their installation. The purpose of the project is to improve clearance between the conductors and roadways and in one case a water body. The majority of the pole structure heights will be increased by 13.5 feet. The height of the majority of the replacement pole structures will be from 56.5 to 61 feet above existing grade. There are several exceptions where topography, and in one case a large body of water (Lake George), requires pole heights to be substantially taller. The exceptions are where the height of the new structures will be 65.5, 70, 79, 83.5, 97 and 115 feet above the existing grade. Wetland impacts will be minimized by using swamp/timber mats at all wetland/stream crossings. All wetland impacts will be temporary and mitigated by complete restoration of the wetlands to pre-construction conditions once the pole replacements are completed. The staging area for this project will be located at National Grid's Ticonderoga service center yard located at Commerce Drive of NYS Route 74, in the Town of Ticonderoga.
