Project Description:

The applicant proposes to install a Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) adsorption system and associated piping to treat well water for volatile organic chemical contamination at two existing Suffolk County Water Authority water supply wells. Clearing, grading, construction of a retaining wall and installation of the GAC system will occur within the 100 foot adjacent area of a NYS regulated freshwater wetland (FWW # N-5). Clearing and grading are proposed to occur within 55 feet of the freshwater wetland boundary and the retaining wall will be located within 60 feet of the boundary. The GAC system will be located within 70 feet of the freshwater wetland boundary. The project is located at the Meade Drive Well Field, Centerport, Town of Huntington, Suffolk County, SCTM# 0400-079-1-15.1

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

A Structural-Archaeological Assessment Form has been completed. The proposed activity will not impact on registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to increase the capacity of an existing well from 1,300 gpm to 2,000 gpm. The well is part of the Port-Jefferson - Farmingville High water supply system which serves the northern and central portions of the Town of Brookhaven. The proposed project is an effort to proactively revitalize and stabilize the water supply system. Fifty-one of the 78 wells that currently make up the system were put into service over 28 years ago, and the proposed increase in well capacity will help to insure an adequate supply of water for both demand and fire protection in this area of growing residential and commercial development. The proposed project is located at the Water Road well field on the south side of Water Road, approximately 30' NW of Mahogany Road in Rocky Point, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, SCTM# 0200-52-07-25.

Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.
