Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing
Essex, Warren and Washington Counties - The Lake George Park Commission, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Adoption of Stream Corridor Protection Regulations for the Lake George Park. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on February 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, Route 9, Lake George, New York. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until March 15, 2009. The action involves the enactment of regulations which will establish permit requirements and design standards for projects in designated stream corridors to protect the water quality of streams and Lake George. The regulations are also expected to establish standards for stream crossings and other hydro-modifications to preserve stream ecology and avoid detrimental effects. It is also expected that the regulations will provide administrative mechanisms to identify and reduce impacts from previous development in stream corridors. The project is located in the Lake George Park which is comprised of Lake George and a surrounding land area approximating the lake's land drainage basin. It includes portions of three counties: Warren, Washington, and Essex, and twelve municipalities, the towns of Lake George, Fort Ann, Bolton, Queensbury, Hague, Putnam, Dresden, Ticonderoga, Lake Luzerne, Horicon, Warrensburg, and the Village of Lake George, New York.
