ENB - Region 2 Notices 1/21/2009
Bronx County (Bronx) - The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Bronx River Floatables Control Facilities will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the installation of four below-grade floatables control facilities for three combined sewer overflow (CSO) outfalls in southern Bronx in accordance with the CSO Consent Order with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). The new floatables control facilities would be installed to serve Outfalls HP-004, HP-007, and HP-009, all of which are within the drainage area of the Hunts Point Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). In addition, new sewer conduits would be installed for Outfall HP-004 and the concrete headwall at Outfall HP-009 in Soundview Park would be repaired. The Bronx River Floatables Control Facilities would be constructed at four separate locations in the southern Bronx, New York. The facility for HP-004 would be constructed on the western shoreline of the Bronx River near West Farms Road and the Sheridan Expressway exit ramp for the westbound Cross Bronx Expressway. The facilities for HP-007 would be constructed on the eastern shoreline of the Bronx River at two regulators, CSO27 and CSO27A, located within the Bronx Zoo by the monorail storage shed and within the right-of-way of Bronx Park Avenue immediately north of the intersection of East 177th Street, respectively. The facility for HP-009 would be constructed along the eastern shoreline of the Bronx River within the northwest section of Soundview Park, just west of a composting facility.
