Project Description:
The NYS Department of Transportation proposes to rebuild a 6.5 mile section of NYS Route 17 to establish interstate highway design standards for access control and interstate highway corridor specifications. Mitigation for construction impacts to approximately 2.65 acres of jurisdictional federal wetlands will establish approximately 6.1 acres of mixed covertype wetland adjoining an existing wetland area in the Town of Caroline, Tompkins County. The highway section of the project begins in the City of Elmira at the Rt. 17 interchange at Exit 56 and runs south and east to the Exit 59 interchange in the Town of Chemung.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:
A cultural resources survey has been completed. Based on information provided in the survey report, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has determined that the proposed activity will have an impact on registered or eligible archaeological sites or historic structures. The department must consult further with OPRHP before making a final decision regarding the issuance of the permit.
Coastal Management:
This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:
The Town of Sodus proposes to create Sodus Water District #7, and to take for use therein a supply of water up to 31,900 gallons per day from the Village of Sodus' Lake Ontario source and well, and the Town of Williamson's Lake Ontario source. This project includes the installation of 17,300 lineal feet of 12-inch and 27,250 lineal feet of 8-inch water main and appurtenances to serve 97 dwelling units. The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application, but is seeking public comments prior to making a final decision on permit issuance. A draft permit is available for review and comment at the regional NYSDEC office in Avon.
