ENB - Region 1 Notices 12/24/2008

Negative Declaration

Nassau County - The Nassau County Legislature, as lead agency, has determined that the proposed Sale of the Grumann/Navy Industrial Site to a Private Developer for Adaptive Use will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the transfer of the former Grumann/ Naval Weapons Industrial Reserve Plant in an as-is condition from the County of Nassau to private ownership for adaptive reuse. The property was acquired by the County from the U.S. Navy in January of 2008. The sale of the property and transfer of the lease by Nassau County is designed to create high-paying, high-density employment for Long Island. While the transfer of the property will not result in any impact to the environment, any future redevelopment plans beyond this transfer will require additional environmental review under SEQRA. The project is located in the Hamlet of Bethpage, Town of Oyster Bay, New York and consists of a total of 101 acres.
