Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to renew SPDES Permit # NY0127922. The facility has five onsite wastewater treatment systems that consist of septic tanks/absorption fields with a combined design flow of up to 11,400 gallons per day. The discharge from the systems is to groundwater. The Department is seeking comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance. As such, this tentative determination does not signify Department approval for or endorsement of the activity for which a permit is sought.

Project Description:

The Department has drafted a permit and made a tentative determination to issue SPDES Permit No. NY-0275310 for a proposed discharge of up to 200 gallons per day of snow melt and non-detergent truck rinse water from a grit chamber and oil/water separator treatment system to a tributary of Java Lake. A discharge of up to 500 gallons of treated sanitary wastewater from a septic tank/leach field system to groundwater is also proposed. These systems will serve the Highway Maintenance Subheadquarters located at 5241 NYS Route 78. This tentative determination indicates that the discharges will satisfy regulatory requirements for permit issuance based on information available to the Department at this time. As a tentative determination, the Department seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance.

The Department has made a tentative determination to issue a permit for the Varysburg Sub-Headquarters. The permit (NY-0275271) would authorize the discharge of up to 200 gallons per day of vehicle washwater after treatment by an oil-water separator. The discharge is to Stony Brook (Class and Standard of A) tributary of Tonawanda Creek. The permit also lists a discharge of up to 125 gallons per day to groundwater from a sanitary wastewater system. The Department is seeking comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance. As such, this tentative determination does not signify Department approval for or endorsement of the activity for which a permit is sought. When commenting, please refer to this application by both the application number and the SPDES number listed in this notice. The Draft Permit, with conditions, application, relevant supporting materials and regulations are available during normal business hours at the DEC office provided in this notice. Comments of support or objection may be made by filing a written statement by the deadline date indicated.
