Project Description:

The applicant proposes to expand the sand and gravel mine onto an adjacent 154.8 acre parcel of land which was recently purchased. The mining plan proposes excavating sand and gravel from 121.3 acres of this land in five phases over the anticipated 45 to 50 years of the remaining life of the mine. The initial expansion will affect 16.3 acres. Concurrently, 6.0 acres of the current permitted area will be reclaimed while an additional 13.1 acres will not be affected by mining and are to be removed from the current permit. Thus, during the next permit term the total active mine area should only expand from 37.7 acres to 48.0 acres.

Project Description:

The applicant has applied for a water supply permit for the existing Village water service system that does not have valid department water supply permit. Obtaining a permit will bring the Village into compliance with regulation and allow the Village to explore extending water service to other service areas and to the Village of Theresa. The present water service system is comprised of a spring providing groundwater to the Village, where water is pumped to a 500,000 gallon water storage tank. The current average daily water use is approximately 155,000 gallons per day, with the ability to produce approximately 405,000 gallons per day.
