Project Description:

The Department has received an application from Rochester Gas & Electric for the installation of a 4 inch medium density polyethylene pipe (MDPE) gas main within an 8 inch MDPE casing via horizontal directional drilling under the Erie Barge Canal. This gas main will replace an existing bridge mounted gas main on the Smith Street Bridge in the Village of Brockport that will be dismantled. Additional gas main will be installed north of the Canal along Smith Street adjacent to and under federal designated wetlands. Appropriate sedimentation and erosion controls will be utilized to prevent contravention of water quality standards. No work will be done in the navigable waterway of the Canal.
The Department has made a tentative determination to approve this application. As a tentative determination, the Department is seeking public comment prior to making a final decision on permit issuance.

The Department has made a tentative determination to approve the Huron Water District # 5 created by the town to take for use therein a supply of water up to 13600 gallons per day from the Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority's Lake Ontario Sources and Village of Sodus well via the Town of Sodus. The project includes the installation of 19900 linear feet (LF) of 12-inch water main and 6350 LF of 8-inch water main and appurtenances to serve approximately 50 dwellings. The project will require crossing the adjacent area of freshwater wetlands WO-4, WO-7, and WO-8. The file is available for review and comment at the NYSDEC Region 8 office.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

A cultural resources survey has been completed. Based on information provided in the survey report, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has determined that the proposed activity will have no impact on registered or eligible archaeological sites or historic structures. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

The applicant proposes to renew the expired permit for a 25-acre sand and gravel mine on Walworth Road in the Town of Macedon, Wayne County.
