Project Description:

The Department has made a tentative determination to issue a permit for a State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit under Article 17 of the Environmental Conservation law. The applicant proposes to discharge backwash from an iron/manganese removal filtration system to a recharge/collection basin. The precipitated iron and manganese will settle and be captured at the bottom of the recharge/collection basin, while the remaining water infiltrates back into the ground. The system is associated with public supply wells located at the Locust Avenue Bohemia Well Site, Town of Islip.
This tentative determination indicates that the discharge regulated under this statute is considered to satisfy regulatory standards for permit issuance based on information available to the Department at this time. As a tentative determination, the Department seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance. As such, this tentative determination does not signify department approval for or endorsement of the activity for which a permit is sought or for the overall proposed project. Please refer to this application by the application number listed above and SPDES number NY 026 7309. A copy of the application and draft permit are available at the Region I Stony Brook office.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

Project is an Unlisted Action and will not have a significant impact on the environment. A Negative Declaration is on file. A coordinated review was not performed.

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

Cultural resource lists and map have been checked. No registered, eligible or inventoried archaeological sites or historic structures were identified at the project location. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to restore an existing dune by placing 2,000 cu. yds. of clean sand from an upland source and then planting the restored dune with American Beach Grass. The reconstruction of an existing stairway to the beach is also proposed. Regulated tidal wetlands exist at the project site, and the proposed project is within a Coastal Erosion Hazard Area. The purpose of the project is to provide shoreline stabilization. The proposed project is located at 131 Crestview Lane in the Village of Sagaponack, Town of Southampton in Suffolk County, SCTM# 0900-107-02-37.11.
