Notice of Acceptance of Draft t-GEIS and Public Hearing

Tompkins County - The Town of Ithaca Planning Board, as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Cornell University Draft transportation-focused Generic Environmental Impact State (Draft t-GEIS). A public hearing on the Draft t-GEIS will be held on September 16, 2008 at 7:15 p.m. at the Town of Ithaca Town Hall. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until September 26, 2008. The Draft t-GEIS includes an identification, examination and evaluation of transportation-related impacts of hypothetical Cornell University population growth scenarios over the next decade on transportation systems and neighborhoods. The Draft t-GEIS addresses these impacts by evaluating and proposing mitigation measures to encourage alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle use by those traveling to and from Cornell. A major objective of the Draft t-GEIS is to develop ways to reduce the number of trips by motor vehicles traveling through residential neighborhoods to and from Cornell, and to identify ways of getting people, not vehicles, to campus. The project focus is located in the Town of Ithaca, New York.
