Project Description:

The proposal is for the taking of an additional supply of water at Calahan Well Field for use in the existing Minerva / Olmsteadville Combined Water District system by replacement of the pump in existing well PW-1 with a maximum new capacity of 150 gallons per minute (gpm), and installation of a new well PW-2 with a maximum new capacity of 150 gpm for system redundancy. The Wells are located at Callahan Pond and the Minerva - Olmsteadville Road.

State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Determination:

Project is not subject to SEQR because it is a Type II action.

SEQR Lead Agency: None Designated

State Historic Preservation Act (SHPA) Determination:

A cultural resources survey has been completed. Based on information provided in the survey report, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) has determined that the proposed activity will have no impact on registered or eligible archaeological sites or historic structures. No further review in accordance with SHPA is required.

Coastal Management:

This project is not located in a Coastal Management area and is not subject to the Waterfront Revitalization and Coastal Resources Act.

Opportunity for Public Comment:

Comments on this project must be submitted in writing to the Contact Person no later than Jul 11, 2008.

Project Description:

The applicant proposes to expand an existing sand and gravel mine by 9.8 acres, for a new total 14.8-acre Life of Mine. There will be continued use of on-site processing equipment (i.e., portable screener). The mine operates on a seasonal basis (May - Nov), Monday - Friday. The operating hours will be 7:00 am - 4:30 pm. The parcel will be reclaimed to a revegetated field condition. The mine is located on the Chain Lakes Road on a 99-acre parcel of land owned by the Town of Indian Lake.
