Public Scoping Session

Schuyler County - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as Lead Agency, will conduct a public scoping session to identify issues from interested parties that should be included in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that will be prepared for the proposed It's Greener Now, Inc., Padua Gravel Pit expansion project. The scoping meeting will be held on July 1, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in conference room 120 at the Schuyler County Human Services Complex located on 323 Owego Street, Montour Falls, NY. Comments on the Scope for the DEIS will be accepted by the Department until July 11, 2008. The action involves the expansion of the currently permitted It's Greener Now Padua sand and gravel mine from 14.3 acres to 106.3 acres. The mine will continue to operate as a traditional extraction of unconsolidated sand and gravel. Operations will continue unchanged from historically permitted activities. As mining operations progress, there will not be a significant increase in production rate and reclamation will be concurrent with mining activity. The proposed mining site is located on Route 409 on property immediately west of the Village of Watkins Glen, north of Watkins Glen State Park and St. Mary's Cemetery, and south of the Reading Town line.
