Project Description:

Application of the herbicides Accord (active ingredient glyphosate) and Krenite (active ingredient Ammonium salt of fosamine) in the regulated 100 foot wide adjacent area of the Swain Pond (CN-1) Wetland along NYS Route 70 in the Town of Grove. The application of herbicides is to be conducted by NYS Department of Transportation employees that have been certified as pesticide applicators by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. The CN-1 Wetland is a class I wetland.

Project Description:

The Westfield Water Works Dams, located on Chautauqua Creek approximately 5 miles upstream from Lake Erie, presently block the majority of fish from gaining access further upstream. The project would involve removing the uppermost 4 feet in the lower (unused dam) and construction of a rock ramp up to the upper dam, to allow the passage of salmonid fish species (primarily steelhead) above the dam to access approximately 10 miles of high quality spawning habitat, which will increase natural reproduction. The project will also include measures to preclude sea lamprey access upstream of the dams.

Project Description:

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) is pursuing a Department Initiated Modification (DIM) and renewal to the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) Permit (NY 002-5950, DEC Identification #: 9-1422-00008/00001), the Town of Amherst Wastewater Treatment Facility No. 16 pursuant to 6 NYCRR Part 750-1.18, New York State's Environmental Benefit Permit Strategy (EBPS). The changes to the permit are as follows:

The guidelines have been updated for operation of the facility's Overflow Retention Basin. The addition of mercury limitations, and requirement for Summer and Winter Season general and Action Level limitations, and monitoring, to reflect significant differences between critical summer and winter flows. The Town of Amherst Wastewater Treatment Facility No. 16 has surface discharge into Tonawanda Creek and Ellicott Creek, class C waters.

Additional information including the current permit, renewal applications, and supporting documentation may be obtained from or inspected at the DEC central office in Albany. Substantive comments on the permit or requests for hearing or both must be submitted in writing to the contact person. DEC seeks comments on the proposed regulated activity prior to making a final decision on permit issuance.
