Project Description:
The US Fish and Wildlife Service, in cooperation with the Plymouth Watershed group, Chenango County SWCD, NYSDOT, and NYSDEC is proposing a stream restoration project on Canasawacta Creek and the East Branch Canasawacta Creek in the Town of Plymouth. Work will occur at numerous locations of a 10 mile stretch of stream within the town, where landowners are willing to allow access. "Natural Stream Design" concepts will be utilized and physical structures such as cross vanes, rock vanes, j-hooks, and bank-full benches will be constructed in conjunction with stream channel modifications. The goal of this work is to reduce flood related impacts to local property owners, stabilize streambanks, reduce erosion, and create/improve habitat for brook trout and other aquatic organisms.

NYSDEC Region 7 proposes to replace an existing water supply line from Furnace Pond on Scriba Creek to the Constantia Fish Hatchery and maintenenace dredge approximately 250 cubic yards of sediment from behind the ponds impoundment structure at the intake. Also, dredge 200 cubic yards of sediment from Scriba Creek adjacent to the hatchery to maintain boat dockage. The application and project plans are available for review in the Syracuse Office.
