Positive Declaration and Public Scoping
Kings County (Brooklyn) - The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed South Pier Improvement Project / Gowanus Generating may have a significant adverse impact on the environment and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement must be prepared. A copy of the Positive Declaration and the Draft Scope of Work is available on the NYS DEC website at: http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6061.html. Written comments on the draft scope will be accepted until February 15, 2008. Two public scoping sessions will be held on January 28, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at Marien-Heim of Sunset Park, 4520 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220 (next to 45th Street R Train Station), and on January 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at PS24, 427 38th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232. The proposed action consists of two components; one GE LMS 100 combustion turbine(s) on the industrially zoned, existing south pier at the GGS, and an emissions reduction strategy for the existing electric generating equipment. The project is located on the south pier of the Project/Gowanus Generating Station, with the entrance on 29th Street and 2nd Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.
