Notice of Acceptance of Draft EIS and Public Hearing

Suffolk County - The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the proposed Southampton to Bridgehampton Transmission Line and Expansion of Bridgehampton Substation. A public hearing on the Draft EIS will be held on December 18, 2007 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Southampton Inn, 91 Hill Street, Southampton, NY 11968. Written comments on the Draft EIS will be accepted until January 7, 2008. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement is available on the LIPA website at: www.lipower.org under the About LIPA, Powering LI tab. The action involves the installation of a new 69 kilovolt electric transmission line from the Southampton Substation to the Bridgehampton Substation. Four routes were analyzed. One would use the existing easements between the two substations. The second would transverse various existing roadways along the most direct route between the two substations. The third would use the Long Island Rail Road Montauk line right-of-way to Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike. The last would follow Montauk Highway to Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike. The transmission line could be above ground, under ground or a combination of both for any of the routes, except the existing easements, which would be all under ground. In addition, the Bridgehampton Substation would be expanded at a LIPA-owned site adjacent to the existing Bridgehampton Substation. The project is located from North Sea Road to Bridgehampton Sag Harbor Turnpike, Southampton, New York.
