Regions 2 & 3
Westchester / Bronx / Manhattan Counties - The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP), as lead agency, has determined that the proposed New Croton Aqueduct Rehabilitation (Cro-334) will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. Public comments will be accepted until November 5, 2007. The action involves the proposal by NYC DEP to rehabilitate the New Croton Aqueduct (NCA) from its beginning at the New Croton Reservoir in Yorktown, Westchester County, to the distribution system connections in the Bronx and Manhattan. The proposed project includes: dewatering of the NCA at the beginning of the proposed activities in order to provide access for the in-tunnel rehabilitation and inspection work as part of this project; the in-tunnel rehabilitation that was identified as necessary as a result of inspection project conducted under CRO-333; and shaft improvements and ancillary work outside the tunnel. A coordinated environmental review was performed to evaluate the potential for environmental impacts to occur as a result of the proposed project.
This Draft Negative Declaration will become final after 30 days.
The project is located along the NCA, a 31 mile long, below ground structure that passes through Westchester, Bronx and New York Counties.
