Project Description:

The Department has prepared a Draft Permit and has made a tentative determination to approve this SPDES application for a discharge of 5800 gallons per day (GPD) of non-contact cooling water, 1100 GPD of stormwater, and 30 GPD of sanitary discharge to groundwater.

The existing facility, known as the Shoreham Electric Generating Facility was originally permitted in January 2002. The Shoreham Electric Generating Facility consists of two General Electric (GE) LM6000 Sprint simple cycle combustion turbines. The total electrical power from these two combustion turbine generators is limited to a net output of 79.9 MW to the electric grid. The combustion turbines fire natural gas only and operate in simple cycle mode (no heat recovery) to provide electric generation particularly during periods of high demand. The combustion turbines utilize water injection and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to control nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and an oxidation catalyst to control emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) and volatile organic compounds (VOC).

The facility is located on North Country Road, Shoreham, in the Town of Brookhaven. Persons wishing to view the draft permit, and application with all relevant supporting materials, should contact the DEC representative listed below.
