Project Description:

The applicant proposes to remove the bulkheads and excavate 450 cubic yards of the upland to a depth of 4 feet below apparent low water to create navigable water and eliminate a portion of the existing boat basin by filling it with 250 cubic yards of the excavated material. The 120 foot shoreline at the facility will then form a straight line which will be bulkheaded with 120 linear feet of vinyl navy style bulkhead. A 10 foot by 55 foot area seaward of the filled portion of the basin will be dredged to 4 feet below apparent low water with the resultant 25 cubic yards of material added to the remaining 200 cubic yards of excavated material and placed as backfill. The existing dock structures will be relocated to the new bulkhead. The project is located on the south side of Island Park Place, Island Park, Town of Hempstead, Nassau County.

The applicant proposes to hydraulically dredge 29,000 cubic yards of material from Plum Gut Harbor on Plum Island to depths ranging from 12 feet below apparent low water to 18 feet below apparent low water. Approximately 24,000 cubic yards of the dredged material will be pumped along the western shoreline of the island from the south side of the harbor to the southwestern tip to replenish the beach and dunes. Approximately 5,000 cubic yards of the material will be stockpiled in upland diked disposal areas for future use. The project is located within Plum Gut Harbor and along the western shoreline of Plum Island, Town of Southold, Suffolk County.
