Summer Day Camp Adventures at Reinstein Woods

We offer unique summer day camps for children in kindergarten to ninth grade, as well as a traveling Summer Science Safari for kids ages 8 to 13. Scroll down to discover more about each of our adventurous camps.

Kids in the Woods

Experience "Kids in the Woods," a week-long summer program at Reinstein Woods that gets kids outside and connects them with nature! To register, download 2016 Summer Day Camp Brochure (1.39 MB) and mail the registration form to: 93 Honorine Drive, Depew, NY 14043. The form can also be dropped off at the environmental education center.

Registration Details

  • Register by March 31, 2016 and receive $10 off your registration fee!
  • Registration deadline: June 30, 2016
  • Space may still be available after the deadline, please call 716-683-5959 to inquire.

Camp Availability
Camps are filled on a first come, first served basis. You will receive a confirmation packet that includes additional information about your child's participation. In the event that the session(s) you requested are full, you will be notified that your child is on a waiting list. Friends of Reinstein will provide a full refund if a camp is cancelled by Friends of Reinstein, or if an individual cancels at least 14 days before camp begins (minus a $20 processing fee.)

Little Sprouts (Grades K-1)
Monday - Friday
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Inspire a sense of wonder in your young child! Each half-day adventure will feature sensory explorations into the lives of animals and plants. Imaginations will run wild with nature art and play.

Two options:
Week 1: July 11 - 15
Week 2: August 15 - 19

Cost per child: $80.00 Member/$90.00 Non-member

Extended care is available from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM at $10.00 per day, per family.

Sample Activities: wildlife safari hike, animal costume party, Make Me a Tree craft, sensory nature walk, pond scooping, nature scavenger hunts, nature play free time.

Nature Explorers (Grades 2 - 5)
Monday - Friday
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Three options:
Week 1: July 18 - 22
Week 2: July 25 - 29
Week 3: August 22 - 26

Every day promises a new nature adventure filled with hands-on experiences, games and crafts. Campers will catch insects, explore the forest and ponds, track animals, and more!

Cost per child: $155.00 Member/$180.00 Non-member

Extended care is available from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at $10.00 per day, per family.

Sample Activities: wildlife safari hike, coyotes & rabbits tag game, fairy/toad houses, meet a tree game, flying insect catching with nets, pond scooping, animal signs hike, survival shelter building, camouflage outfit craft.

Wilderness Adventurers (Grades 5 - 8)
Monday - Friday
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

One option:
August 8 - 12

Encourage kids to connect with their wild selves! Campers will investigate the world of the pond, develop outdoors skills like shelter-building, search for hidden geocaches, and try new outdoor experiences.

Cost per child: $155.00 Member/$180.00 Non-member

Extended care is available from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at $10.00 per day, per family.

Sample Activities: wildlife safari hike, forest transect hike, flying insect catching with nets, pond scooping and water quality investigation, animal tracking competition, shelter building & survival skills, geocaching.

Junior Naturalists Camp (Grades 7 - 9)
Wednesday - Friday
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

One option:
July 6 - 8

An exciting new 3-day camp for the budding scientist, artist, and outdoor enthusiast! Practice camping and navigational skills, learn how to interpret the environment, and develop skills for outdoor hobbies like fly-fishing, nature journaling, geocaching and more.

Cost per child: $95.00 Member/$110.00 Non-member

Extended care is available from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at $10.00 per day, per family.

Sample Activities: setting up a camp, essentials of backpacking and hiking, map and compass navigation, nature journaling, catch-and-release fishing, how to use field guides, helpful vs. harmful plant identification.

Summer Science Safari Day Camp

Monday - Friday
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Two options:
August 1 - 5
August 29 - September 2

Cost per child: $180 per week

Location: (Please drop off campers at the appropriate location for daily activities)

  • Monday: Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve
  • Tuesday & Wednesday: Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center
  • Thursday & Friday: Evangola State Park

Experience Summer Day Camp like never before! Science comes alive at three exciting natural sites in the Lake Erie neighborhood: the Penn Dixie Site, Evangola State Park and Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, for an exciting five days of Summer Nature Exploration. Children ages 8-13 will visit three unique natural sites for a fun week of activities. Dig for fossils, explore the world of a pond, swim at a lifeguarded beach, build a wilderness survival shelter, and see local animal and bird displays at two different nature centers and much more!
