Summer Teacher Fellowship at Five RiversThe Summer Teacher Fellowship, a competitive annual award funded by the Friends of Five Rivers, is a unique opportunity for a teacher to develop skills and knowledge of environmental education. It is a three-week session in July and August.
The program offers intensive training in natural history, environmental education methods and techniques and the opportunity to observe interpretive and educational activities. During the second week, the teacher will participate in Five Rivers Center's annual Living Environment Institute, a week-long teacher training co-sponsored by the Center and the Teacher Center of the Greater Capital Region. In the third week, the teacher will work closely with Five Rivers staff developing curriculum and lesson plans to use directly in the classroom.
While learning, the teacher will share his/her classroom expertise and knowledge of the school system, testing, learning standards, and recent trends in teaching with Center staff. This fellowship provides the teacher with the skills, materials and expertise needed to integrate environmental concepts into everyday classroom instruction, and creates the opportunity for the busy teacher to take the time to develop exciting, workable ways of teaching students in and about the outdoors.
The successful applicant will receive a stipend of $250 per week, totaling $750 for the three weeks.
