Summer Teacher Fellowship at Five Rivers
The Summer Teacher Fellowship, a competitive annual award funded by the Friends of Five Rivers, is a unique opportunity for teachers to develop their skills and knowledge of environmental education. It is a three-week session in July and August.
The program offers intensive training in natural history, environmental education methods and techniques and the opportunity to observe classes. During the second week, the teacher will participate in the annual Living Environment Institute, a week-long teacher training co-sponsored by Five Rivers EEC and the Teacher Center of the Greater Capital Region. In the third week, the teacher works closely with Five Rivers EEC staff developing curriculum and lesson plans to use directly with their own classes.
While learning, the teacher will share their classroom expertise and knowledge of the school system, testing, learning standards, and recent trends in teaching with center staff. This fellowship provides a teacher with the skills, materials and expertise they need to teach about environmental science, and it creates the opportunity for a busy teacher to take the time to develop exciting, workable ways of teaching their students in and about the outdoors.
The successful applicant will receive a stipend of $200 per week, totaling $600 for the three weeks.
