Watershed Plans

A watershed plan:

  • characterizes the natural resources, habitats, and environment of the watersheds,
  • identifies water quality and living resource impairments,
  • recommends actions to protect the watersheds from further degradation, and
  • develops a strategy to restore the watersheds.

The plan also forms a framework to guide future decisions and provides a point of reference by which progress can be measured.

DEC's Division of Water (DOW) has added 47 watershed plans that covers a total of 21,748 square miles of area in the state.
