CWM Chemical Services Proposed Landfill Residual Management Unit 2 (RMU-2)

for Model City, New York

CWM Chemical Services, LLC (CWM), submitted a Permit modification application to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (Department) for a new hazardous waste landfill at their facility in Model City, New York (Niagara County). CWM proposes to site/construct/operate a 50 acre landfill to be designated as Residual Management Unit - Two (RMU-2) for disposal of an estimated 3,976,100 cubic yards of hazardous and industrial non-hazardous waste. In addition to the Permit modification, CWM is required to obtain a certificate of environmental safety and public necessity from a NYS Siting Board appointed by the Governor. The Department has established this web page to provide the public with information on the hazardous waste permitting activities related to CWM's proposed RMU-2 landfill.

Currently, the Department is reviewing CWM's Permit modification application and is in the process of developing a Scope for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) required for this landfill project. As a part of this Scoping process, the Department is soliciting public input as described in the above linked documents.
