FMC Middleport - Public Involvement
Public Comment Period Extended
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH) will be holding public involvement sessions regarding the preliminary remedy selection to address FMC-related contaminated soils on off-site properties in Middleport, Niagara County.
The preliminary remedy selection proposed is described in a document called the Draft Statement of Basis (SB) for Air Deposition Area #1 (OU2 and OU4) and Culvert 105 (OU5). The June 2012 Statement of Basis Fact Sheet summarizes and describes the actions proposed in the Draft Statement of Basis.
Members of the public are welcome and invited to attend any sessions.

The evening public meeting will begin with brief presentations by DEC and DOH, followed by an opportunity for members of the public to make verbal comments on the record. The afternoon session will be informal where members of the public can ask Department staff questions regarding the draft Statement of Basis or other FMC environmental matters. Also, written comments can be provided at any of these sessions.
Written Comment Period:
DEC will also accept written comments from the public on the FMC Draft Statement of Basis Report during a public comment period which begins on June 15, 2012 and has been extended through August 13, 2012.

Past Public Meetings
A public meeting was held on June 14, 2011 at the Middleport Fire Hall which included a presentation of the alternatives discussed in the Corrective Measures Study (CMS). The meeting provided an opportunity for citizens to discuss their concerns, ask questions and comment on the CMS. These comments have become part of the Administrative Record for this site, and are addressed in the June 2012 Responsiveness Summary on FMC's Draft Corrective Measures Study. (See link in right hand column of this page for electronic copy of this document). This responsiveness summary responds to questions and comments raised during the public comment period.
