Environmental Results Program (ERP)
The New York State Small Business Sector's Environmental Results Program (ERP) is a multi-media, sector based regulatory approach that combines compliance assistance with self-certification and performance measurement to help small businesses understand their environmental requirements and improve their environmental performance.
ERP applies three integrated components to enhance and measure environmental performance:
- Self-Certification: The owner or facility manager certifies that the facility is in compliance with environmental requirements. Facilities that are not in compliance file a "Return to Compliance" plan, which describes the corrective actions that the facility will take and a schedule to achieve full compliance.
- Compliance Assistance: Compliance assistance is provided through sector-specific workbooks and workshops that clearly explain facilities' environmental requirements as well as pollution prevention practices that go "beyond compliance".
- Performance Measurement: Random sampling and statistical analysis are used to measure the performance of ERP sectors and facilities, and to strategically target inspections and compliance assistance efforts.
