The JHS 126 air monitoring station was established in 2000 as a Hi-Volume PM10 and Lead monitoring site. In January 2001 a Federal Reference Method fine particulate (PM2.5) sampler was added. This PM2.5 sampler is part of the overall PM2.5 monitoring network used for comparison to the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. PM10 sampling was discontinued December 2005.
The parameters monitored are indicated in the following table:
| Parameter | Sampling Method | Analysis Method | Schedule |
|---|---|---|---|
| PM2.5 | R&P Partisol 2025 Method 118 | Gravimetric | 1 day in 3 |
| Lead | Hi-Volume TSP Method 803 | Atomic Absorption | 1 day in 6 |
Proposed Changes:
With the new lead standards, it is expected that the lead sampling will be terminated at the end of 2009 at this site. IS 52 in the Bronx will provide the necessary lead sampling in New York City as required by regulation.

The JHS 45 air monitoring station was originally established in 1981 as a sulfur dioxide, fine and coarse particulate (dichotomous samplers) and Total Suspended Particulate site. The site was shut down in 1985 and then reestablished as a Federal Reference Method fine particulate (PM2.5) monitoring site in January 2000. A duplicate PM2.5 sampler was installed in January 2006 after being removed from the PS 59 station to continue to provide accuracy data for the PM2.5 network. The FRM PM2.5 samplers at JHS 45 are part of the overall PM2.5 monitoring network used for comparison to the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
The parameters monitored are indicated in the following table:
| Parameter | Sampling Method | Analysis Method | Schedule |
|---|---|---|---|
| PM2.51 | R&P Partisol 2025 Method 118 | Gravimetric | 1 day in 3 |
