Digital Television (DTV) Conversion Information
On June 12, 2009, television stations nationwide must switch from the analog method of transmitting TV signals to DTV. Many stations will make the switch as early as February 17, 2009. Millions of households risk losing reception unless they take the steps to receive a digital signal. A link to DTVanswers.com, an initiative of the National Association of Broadcasters which offers guidance on switching to DTV, is available on the right hand side of this page under "Offsite Links."
The discontinuation of analog television signals may cause many New York consumers to purchase high definition televisions and discard older televisions, producing a large and potentially hazardous waste stream. Consumers should make every effort to recycle their old televisions through use of municipal collection programs, manufacturer takeback programs, donation and reuse opportunities, or through a commercial dismantler/recycler of used electronic equipment. Visit the Guidance for Households page for more information on where households can bring their unwanted televisions.
