A Record of Decision (ROD) has been signed for the Bush Terminal Landfill Piers 1-4 Site in Brooklyn, New York, detailing the selected remedy for this former construction-related fill area. The selected remedy combines a soil cover with passive and active landfill gas management, ground water monitoring, sediment remediation and institutional and site use controls. The selected remedy will support the site's redevelopment as a public park.

New York

The NYSDEC is presenting for public comment a remedy for Operable Unit 4 of the Con Edison West 18th Street former Manufactured Gas Plant site. The remedy will address the block bounded by 17th Street to the south, 18th street to the north, Tenth Avenue to the east and the West Side Highway (aka 11th Avenue or Route 9A). In the proposed plan, coal tar contamination left over from the plant's operation in the late 1800's would be addressed by treatment and containment as described in the Draft Decision Document (5 Page PDF, 250 MB). Public comments will be accepted through May 2, 2008.

Former Clifton MGP Site:

A Record of Decision (ROD) was issued on December 22, 2006 for the operable unit 2 of the Former Clifton MGP Site in Staten Island. (42 page PDF, 1.1 MB) The ROD selected a remedy that includes demolition of the existing building, removal of former MGP-related structures, excavation of source materials to approximately 10 feet below grade and backfill with clean fill to existing grade, installation of vertical cutoff walls in the subsurface to prevent off-site migration of coal tar, installation of recovery wells and a site management plan. A proposed noise/vibration mitigation plan (28 page PDF, 553 KB) developed by KeySpan to address noise and vibration impacts resulting from sheet pile installations at the operable unit 1 on the former Clifton MGP site was issued for circulation in April 2006 and revised in December 2006.
