Comment Deadline Announcement: NYSDEC invites persons having an interest in providing written statements on permit applications accepted by the DEC for the Hakes C&D Debris Landfill project located at 4376 Manning Ridge Road, in the Town of Campbell, Steuben County. All comments must be received by the NYSDEC no later than Monday, February 26, 2018.

Written comments can be provided to the NYSDEC using one of the following methods below:

DEC invites the public to the meeting to learn about the remedy being proposed to address contamination related to the Al Tech Specialty Steel Site (Watervliet, Albany Co.), within New York's State Superfund Program. Public comments also are welcome at the meeting, and during a public comment period that runs through March 19, 2018.

This summit will include an evening session that is open to the public where background information about harmful algal blooms will be provided. The sessions will include talks by experts, a panel discussion and an opportunity for local residents to share recommendations and ideas.

 Public Presentation: Preparing New York’s Communities for Climate Change

This Citizens Climate Lobby meeting will feature a presentation by DEC climate policy analyst Mark Lowery. Lowery will describe anticipated effects of climate change, the level of greenhouse gas emissions reductions needed to avoid the worst effects of climate change, and New York State programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to unavoidable effects of climate change. The program will include a description of the state’s Climate Smart Communities program, which supports local climate action, and ways for individuals to be involved in the program.

NYSDEC will host a public availability session to provide information on a recently completed habitat management plan for Harwood Lake Multiple Use Area (MUA) located in the town of Farmersville, Cattaraugus County.

Come join us to learn about the goals of the plan and future management at this MUA. The meeting will include a presentation and time for questions. An open house will begin at 6:00 and a formal presentation at 6:30.

 Hazardous Waste Report - Deadline for Filing by Large Quantity Generators

A Hazardous Waste Report (Report), for each calendar year, is required and must submitted by large quantity generators and treatment, storage and/or disposal facilities in New York State. DEC must receive the completed Report by March 1, 2018.

Details, along with instructions and forms to be completed for the Report, are available on DEC’s website at the link provided above. DEC encourages all parties to submit the forms on-line at www.arminc.net. If completed on-line, the Declaration of Electronic Filing must be mailed and received by March 1, 2018. If on-line submission is not an option, the Report can be submitted in paper form.

This site is in the City of Cohoes, within the County of Albany, and is located at 401 Saratoga Street, Cohoes, NY 12047. Comments about the application must be submitted no later than March 2, 2018.

It’s time again for our annual celebration of all creatures strange and silly! Join us as we mark Read Across America Day with selections from favorite books by Dr. Seuss. Follow along as we read about Yertle the Turtle, The Lorax, Sneeches and more. Be inspired to draw your own animal in the style of Dr. Seuss, and watch for an appearance by The Cat in the Hat himself.
