The NYS DEC is asking the public for input on the development of the draft Tug Hill East Unit Management Plan (UMP) and the East Branch Fish Creek Easement Recreation Management Plan (RMP). DEC is encouraging the public to share comments on the plans at a session on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 from 6:00p.m. - 8:30p.m.

DEC will host an informational webinar on November 28, 2018 to provide the public the opportunity to learn and ask questions about potential regulatory actions to reduce hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) emissions. DEC is considering adopting prohibitions on specific uses of HFCs in refrigerants, aerosol propellants, and foam-blowing agents that were previously finalized by the US Environmental Protection Agency in 2015 and 2016, under the Significant New Alternatives Program. Potentially affected entities include the manufacturers, retailers, and users of refrigerants, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, and other affected consumer products.

NYS DEC has completed a Draft Unit Management Plan Amendment for the Blue Ridge Wilderness. The amendment proposes the construction of a portion of the Seventh Lake Mountain to Sargent Ponds Multiple-Use Trail and its maintenance as a Class II Community Connector Snowmobile Trail. Starting at the bridge over the South Inlet of Raquette Lake, a route parallel to the south side of New York State Route 28, approximately four miles in length, will continue eastward until reaching private property near Bear Brook.

The project is located in the Towns of Indian Lake, Long Lake, Arietta, and Lake Pleasant and the Village of Speculator, New York.

A public meeting will be held at 6:00 pm on November 28, 2018, at the following location:

Written comments are welcome and will be accepted, by mail or e-mail, by the contact person listed above until Friday, December 7, 2018.

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation will hold an Issues Conference at 9:00 AM on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Holiday Inn Middletown-Goshen, located at 68 Crystal Run Road, Middletown, New York regarding the Valley Energy Center CPV’s Air State Facility (ASF) permit renewal application, DEC’s notice of denial, and CPV’s request for a hearing.

The purpose of the issues conference will be to determine party status for the persons who properly filed written petitions, and to narrow and define the scope of issues, if any, which may require adjudication. Participation at the issues conference will be limited to DEC staff, applicant, and those persons who timely requested party status. Following the issues conference, the participants will be advised of the ALJ’s rulings on issues and party status, and whether an adjudicatory hearing will be scheduled for a later date.

NYSDEC invites you to join other regional stakeholders in a basinwide partnership to advance ecosystem-based management (EBM) opportunities for New York's Great Lakes basin, as identified in the state's interim Great Lakes Action Agenda (GLAA).

Meeting objectives include:

  • Share information on funding and resources, key project updates and collaborative opportunities relevant to sub basin work plans.
  • Discuss progress of EBM demonstration area watersheds and identify next steps.

Four sub-basin work groups provide a unique opportunity to connect, coordinate and collaborate with other groups and agencies working locally and basinwide.

Join our naturalist crew as they take you on an adventure here at Five Rivers. Each month’s adventure will focus on a different aspect of New York’s natural world. Like any good adventurer, you will want to do your research first, so pick up a copy of the Conservationist for Kids at the visitor center during your next visit to Five Rivers. Parents or caregivers and children must participate together. Space is limited. Please call to register for this program by Wednesday, November 28 and include the child’s grade, as the program is most appropriate for grades 2-8.
