The Department is proposing revisions to new 6 NYCRR Subpart 227-3, "Ozone Season Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) Emission Limits for Simple Cycle and Regenerative Combustion Turbines." The primary goal of this proposal is to lower allowable NOx emissions from simple cycle and regenerative combustion turbines during the ozone season. The lower emissions from these sources will help to address Clean Air Act (CAA) requirements, ozone nonattainment and protect the health of New York State residents. This proposal is only applicable to simple cycle and regenerative combustion turbines. This is not a mandate on local governments. It applies to any entity that owns or operates a subject source. The revised proposal includes a substantive change to the applicability section with accompanying requisite changes in the definitions section. The proposed revision also includes other non-substantive changes in response to public comments to clarify the intent of the regulation.

On August 7, 2019 the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) published a Public Notice in the Environmental Notice Bulletin (ENB) indicating that the NYS DEC plans to submit a Regional Haze State Implementation Plan (SIP) revision to the United State Environmental Protection Agency that included a public comment period deadline of September 6, 2019. The full notice may be found on DEC's website.

This Public Notice hereby extends the public comment period on the proposed Regional Haze SIP revision, or to request a hearing, to October 7, 2019. The public can inspect a copy of the proposed SIP revision by visiting the NYS DEC website.

Join the "Walkers' Club" at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center on Tuesday mornings, 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Participants will gather at the Visitor Center and choose which trail they will walk that morning. This is an opportunity to walk with others and make new friends. These walks are not guided or led by staff. Walkers' Club is a free activity.

HOMESTEAD CRAFTS

We will be heading outdoors to learn about wildflowers, mushrooms, grasses and trees/nuts that grow at Five Rivers. On our walk, we’ll discuss life cycles, ecosystem niches, and importance or use to homesteaders. We will collect a few samples and head indoors to create a keepsake. Not into crafting? Feel free to leave after the walk. Participants are asked to dress for the weather and bring along water and a snack.

Please meet at Five Rivers’ Guided School Program Building.

Time & Dates: Thursdays, 1:30–3:00 PM, September 26, October 3, 10, 17, and 24

This site is located in the City of Buffalo in Erie County and is located at 130 Main Street. Public comments about the application and draft work plan must be submitted by October 11, 2019.

THE AMAZING WORLD OF LICHENS
Ever see green spots on trees or rocks and wonder what they were? They are not plants—they are lichens, which are a combination of fungi and algae. Starting in the classroom, we will learn how lichens help animals and people. Then we will explore outside and find these mysterious organisms.
