NYS DEC has determined that site ID #915167 the Fourth Street MGP Site, may be deleted from the New York State Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites. This site is located at 43 Carolina Street, Buffalo, NY.

The Town of Webb Park Avenue Office Building, 183 Park Avenue in Old Forge.

Information and comments gathered from the public and stakeholder groups will help the commissioners of the two state agencies determine whether to amend the Remsen-Lake Placid Corridor Unit Management Plan. The plan, adopted by DEC and NYSDOT in March 1996, assesses the natural and physical resources along the 100-foot-wide corridor and identifies opportunities for public use. It guides how the corridor is used and managed.

The sessions will include a presentation by the state agencies and informational stations where the public can give state agency staff their comments and ideas verbally or in writing.

DEC is providing Preliminary Drafts for Public Consideration of revised Petroleum Bulk Storage (PBS) and Chemical Bulk Storage (CBS) regulations for comment by stakeholders.

To help the public understand the draft regulations and ask questions, DEC will be hosting a public information meeting. Public comments also are welcome at the meeting and during a public comment period that runs through September 20, 2013. Comments should be emailed to the email address identified above labelled "Contact".

The public is invited to comment on a remedy proposed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) related to the 68 West First Street site (Former Flexo Wire site) (“site”) located at 68 West First Street, Oswego, Oswego County.  The meeting will be held at:

NYSDEC is accepting written comments about the proposed remedy for each operable unit for 45 days, from August 30, 2013 through October 14, 2013.

DEC announced two upcoming waterfowl hunter informational meetings: Thursday, August 29, from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Headquarters located on Casey Road in Alabama, Genesee County; and September 12 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Montezuma Audubon Center in Savannah, Wayne County. These meetings will focus on topics of interest to waterfowl hunters in Western New York and the Iroquois and Montezuma NWR region.

Topics of interest will include:

  • Highlights of waterfowl management and research programs at Iroquois NWR, Tonawanda and Oak Orchard Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), Montezuma NWR and Northern Montezuma WMA;
  • Regional and statewide waterfowl news and updates;
  • Atlantic Flyway news;
  • Waterfowl population status survey results;
  • The New York waterfowl hunting season-setting process; and,
  • Tentative 2013-14 duck and goose hunting seasons.

Directions:

Iroquois NWR, 1101 Casey Road, Basom - from the NYS Thruway, take Exit 48A (Pembroke) and travel north on Rte. 77 to Alabama Center. Continue north on Rte. 63 for approximately 1 mile, turn left on Casey Rd. The office is about a mile down the road on the right.

Montezuma Audubon Center, 2295 St. Rt. 89, Savannah - from the west, take the New York State Thruway to exit 42. Turn north onto Route 14 and follow for approximately 12 miles until you reach the intersection with Route 31. Turn right and follow Route 31 heading east into Savannah, about 15 miles. Turn left heading north at the blinking light onto State Route 89. The Center will be on your left approximately 2 miles from the intersection of Routes 31 and 89. From the east: take the New York State Thruway to exit 40 in Weedsport, turn south onto Route 34. Turn right on to Route 31 heading west. Follow Route 31 for approximately 12 miles to the intersection with Route 89 in Savannah. Turn right at the blinking light onto State Route 89. The Center is on your left, 2 miles north of the intersection of Routes 31 and 89.

Since 1975, 224 species of bird have been observed at Five Rivers. Over 30 of these species breed north of Five Rivers and are seen only when they pass through in spring and fall. We’ll watch for both fall migrants and resident birds as we check places where birds are likely to refuel before continuing their southward journey. This program is free and open to the public.
