Roving Naturalist: HEMLOCK HABITAT

The Vlomankill Trail is dominated by towering hemlock trees and the Vlomankill stream. Find the roving naturalist near the two bridges at the western end of the trail to learn how these two features work to create a rich habitat for many different wildlife species, from the damselfly to the white-tailed deer. We’ll highlight the wildlife visitors may encounter along the Vlomankill, and their dependence on these features and on other wildlife species within the habitat.

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • Roving naturalist programs may host one family/household group at a time. No registration required.
  • Social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.
