NYSDEC, in partnership with the Niagara County Soil and Water Conservation District, will be hosting a virtual public outreach event on Thursday, July 30 from 12-1 PM to present the case for removing the Restrictions on Dredging Activities Beneficial Use Impairment (BUI) from the Eighteenmile Creek Area of Concern (AOC). This BUI was originally designated as “impaired” in the Eighteenmile Creek AOC’s Remedial Action Plan due to a multitude of factors contributing to degraded water quality conditions, including the presence of contaminated sediments upstream of the AOC. NYSDEC and its’ partners – primarily the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have determined that the conditions for making this non-regulatory decision have been met in accordance with the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and will be seeking public feedback.
