Join NY ReLeaf for an urban forestry webinar on July 21st at 10 AM! The Natural Areas Conservancy (NAC) exists to restore and conserve the green and blue spaces of New York City in order to enhance the lives of all New Yorkers. In this webinar NAC Project Manager Justin Bowers will talk about recent research done in NYC to create a detailed picture of the composition and condition of NYC’s forests and wetlands. The study collected ecological data in over 1000 plots throughout the city and provided a wealth of data that contributed significantly to the create of the Forest Management Framework, a guiding document for forest restoration and conservation in NYC over the next 25 years.

Registration is free but required in advance.

This site is located in the City of Rome, within the County of Oneida and is located at 109 Canal Street. Public comments about the application must be submitted by July 24, 2020.

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is hosting an informational public webinar to discuss the development of a value of carbon guidance for State agencies. The webinar will provide the public the opportunity to learn and ask questions.
 
DEC is required to establish a value of carbon for use by State agencies per Article 75 of the Environmental Conservation Law, as amended by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). During this webinar, staff will discuss the requirements for establishing a value of carbon, how a value of carbon is estimated using both a damages and a marginal abatement approach, key considerations, and examples of how a value of carbon may be used by State agencies.

Guided Walk: NATIVE PLANTS

Join a Five Rivers educator to learn about some native plants that nourish our local insects and birds. Planting some of these in your own backyard can help nearby wildlife thrive, so come meet these hospitable plants! Limited to 10 participants. Call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 by July 22 to register.

For the safety of our visitors, staff and volunteers, and in compliance with guidance from New York State, the New York State Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), social distancing practices must be followed. Masks must be worn throughout guided programs, while at a roving program, and on the trails whenever a 6-foot distance cannot be maintained between individuals or households.

On this guided walk, we will search for ebony jewelwings and tiger swallowtails as well as other dragonflies and butterflies. 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • You must call 716-683-5959 to pre-register; each program is limited to 9 participants.
  • All participants over age 2 are required to wear a mask. 
  • Social distancing of 6’ or more between households will be practiced whenever possible. 
  • Reinstein Woods’ restrooms will not be available.
