Location: Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, Delmar

The American Goldfinch is not in a hurry to build a nest. One of the season’s latest breeders in New York, it has been speculated that this bird waits until thistles are in bloom and then uses the fibers for their nests and feeds the seeds to their young. After a brief introduction indoors, we’ll take to the field in search of the goldfinch and watch for breeding activity. And we’ll try to determine whether they really need those thistles!
