 Free Fishing Weekend

During this special weekend, anglers are not required to have a license while enjoying the weekend of fishing in New York State. The free fishing weekend is for both saltwater and freshwater fishing.

Anglers must abide by fishing regulations, including size and daily possession limits, which are available on DEC's Statewide Freshwater Angling Regulations or Saltwater Fishing Regulations webpages.

In addition to the free fishing weekend, there are a number of free fishing day clinics offered in New York State. You can check the list of available New York Free Fishing Events for 2013 online.

The Department will hold the following joint legislative public hearings on amendments to 6 NYCRR Section 200.1, Definitions, and on the repeal of 6 NYCRR Subpart 227-3, Pre-2003 Nitrogen Oxides Emissions Budget and Allowance Program, 6 NYCRR Part 237, Acid Deposition Reduction NOx Budget Trading Program, and 6 NYCRR Part 238, Acid Deposition Reduction SO2 Budget Trading Program, and attendant revisions to Part 200, General Provisions.

The Department proposes to amend Section 200.1 to remove from the list of fine particulate matter nonattainment areas the New York portion of the New York-N. New Jersey-Long Island, NY-NJ-CT area.

The Department proposes to repeal Subpart 227-3, Part 237, and Part 238, and amend Part 200, to remove all references to Subpart 227-3 and Parts 237 and 238.

Hearings for the proposed amendments described above will be held as follows and are scheduled in places that are reasonably accessible to persons with impaired mobility:

Location: Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, Delmar

Learn how you can help monitor monarch butterfly activity at Five Rivers. During this training, volunteers will become familiar with the signs of monarch activity, and learn how to record data for the University of Minnesota’s Monarch Larva Monitoring Project. Volunteers then assist with weekly monitoring at 1:00 PM on Wednesdays from July through early September.

This site is located in the City of Buffalo, within the County of Erie, and is located at 399 Ohio Street. Comments regarding the application must be submitted no later than July 4, 2014. What’s red, white and blue and flutters in the wind? It and others like it are flying all over the grounds. Come join our annual census of local butterflies as we gently catch, identify and release specimens unharmed. Nets are welcome. Parent(s) and child(ren) must accompany each other.
