 Free Fishing Weekend
Contact  Bureau of Fisheries

During this special weekend, anglers are not required to have a license while enjoying the weekend of fishing in New York State. The free fishing weekend is for both saltwater and freshwater fishing.

Anglers must abide by fishing regulations, including size and daily possession limits, which are available on DEC's Statewide Freshwater Angling Regulations or Saltwater Fishing Regulations webpages.

In addition to the free fishing weekend, there are a number of free fishing day clinics offered in New York State. You can check the list of available New York Free Fishing Events for 2013 online.

Join us on a search for herons, ducks, sandpipers and other birds of pond and shoreline as we commemorate the birth date of the founder of American ornithology. Wetlands conservation issues will be discussed. This program is free and open to the public.

What’s red, white and blue and flutters in the wind? Dang, there goes another one! Whatever it is, they’re flying all over the grounds. Come join our annual census of local butterflies as we gently catch, identify and release specimens unharmed. Nets are welcome. Parent(s) and child(ren) must accompany each other. Please call Five Rivers at 518-475-0291 to register for this program by Friday, June 28. This program is free and open to the public.

Note that the events at environmental education centers will only display in the region in which they are located, even though they serve residents from adjacent areas.
