As part of Governor Cuomo’s plan to improve the state’s economic development model, the NYS Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) streamlines and expedites the grant application process. It offers a single entry point for access to funding from multiple state agencies for economic development, community revitalization, and environmental improvements.

As part of the 2017 CFA, a series of workshops is offered across the state to provide potential applicants with additional information on individual funding programs offered, as well as an opportunity to ask questions and discuss project ideas with program representatives. Workshops are being held during May and June.

This notice announces the availability of the draft 2017 Household Cleansing Product Information Disclosure Program Certification Form and Guidance Document and the launch of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (NYS DEC's) Household Cleansing Product Information Disclosure Program.

Under the program, manufacturers of cleaning products sold in the State of New York are required to disclose the ingredients of their products on their websites and identify any ingredients that appear on authoritative lists of chemicals of concern.

Public comment on the form and guidance will be accepted through June 14, 2017.

Citizen Science: Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (MLMP)

Take part in ongoing research on monarch butterflies. For more than 15 years, data collected at Five Rivers has been contributed to this continent-wide citizen science project conducted through the University of Minnesota. The goal of the MLMP is to better understand how and why monarch populations vary, with a focus on their distribution and abundance during the breeding season in North America. Volunteers in the United States, Canada and Mexico aid in conserving monarchs and advance understanding of butterfly ecology and migration in general. Meet at the Nature’s Accessible Backyard Trail kiosk, at the south end of our parking lot. Go to www.mlmp.org to learn about the project.

DEC released for public review and comment the draft Unit Management Plan (UMP) for the Piseco Lake campgrounds. The UMP identifies proposed upgrades and replacements for facilities and infrastructure during the next five years.

Public comment on the draft UMP will be accepted through June 16, 2017, and can be submitted by mail to the contact listed above.

The amendments propose the installation of a gate at the entrance to Eagle Cave to protect an important bat hibernaculum; the construction of the new Wakely Brook Trail to connect the Kunjamuk Trail with the Round Pond Trail; the official designation and marking of the Round Pond Trail, the Kings Flow East Trail, and the Puffer Pond Brook Trail; the retention of the Puffer Pond lean-to, which was identified for removal in the 2005 UMP; the construction of a new trail segment connecting the John Pond - Clear Pond Loop Trail to Parkerville Road; replace the bridge on the Sacandaga River or re-rout a portion of the Botheration Pond Trail to avoid the river crossing; and re-rout a portion of the Clear Pond Trail.

The amendment proposes the development of an accessible tent site on Lake Durant; the creation of a spur trail that connects the hamlet of Long Lake to the Northville Placid Trail; the construction of an additional lean-to on a heavily-used section of the Northville Placid Trail; and modifications to the Blue Mountain summit facilities, including rehabilitation of the Blue Mountain access road, the removal of summit facilities that are no longer in use, and the installation of improvements that will protect the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (NYS DEC) investment in the facilities on the summit.

 Air Monitoring Network Plan Proposed Changes - Comment Deadline

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) - Division of Air Resources operates an ambient air monitoring network for various air contaminants within the State. As required by federal regulations, NYS DEC prepares an annual monitoring network plan.

NYS DEC has reviewed the current ambient air monitoring network and is proposing locate two required PAMS sites in the Bronx and on the north shore of Long Island, and collocating a PM2.5 instrument in Amherst, NY. In addition, the NYS DEC is requesting to close the Pb-TSP monitoring site at Ballard Road, and move the collocated sampler to the Wakefern Food Site at the end of 2017.

Written comments on this plan should be forwarded to NYS DEC by June 17th, 2017

 Deep Pond Father's Day Fishing Clinic

Location of Event:  Schiff Boy Scout Camp, 1606 Manorville Road, Wading River

This event is arranged by the I FISH NY program of the NYSDEC in cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America, Theodore Roosevelt Council. Geared towards Fathers with children, IFISHNY will conduct basic fishing instruction, ecology and stewardship of local aquatic habitats, fish identification, regulations and casting safety and techniques. The I FISH NY program of the NYSDEC will provide instruction, rods and bait free of charge.
