 Public Meeting - Cleanup Proposed for Portion of BICC Cables Site (Yonkers)

Public Meeting Location: Yonkers Riverside Branch Public Library, 1 Larkin Center, Yonkers, NY.

The public is invited to the meeting to learn about the remedy being proposed by DEC to address contamination related to a portion of the BICC Cables Site (Yonkers, Westchester Co.), within New York's State Superfund Program. Public comments also are welcome at the meeting, and during  a public comment period that runs through June 4, 2014.

 Webinars on Streamlined Process for Environmental Assessment Forms

Come celebrate the dawn chorus as we monitor the progression of spring bird migration. This outdoor survey will begin at 7:30 AM. Beginners always welcome. Binoculars are helpful but not necessary. Turtle expert Dee Strnisa, who will have live turtles with her, will conduct an indoor overview of turtle natural history and the conservation challenges turtles face today. After spending winter in the warmth of more temperate climes, many bird species return to Five Rivers to breed or continue on to homes even farther north. Five Rivers provides the habitat that birds need to nest and raise young, and also offers the shelter and food required for birds to rest and refuel as they continue their journey. We will watch for residents and migrants, exploring a variety of habitats important to migratory birds.

The Service Loop offers a nice easy stroll along wide flat trails. It is a great way to enjoy a cross section of Five Rivers. We will pass through a variety of habitats, including ponds, marshes, old fields and mature forest. We may see Canada geese with goslings and a wide variety of migratory birds, plus frogs, turtles, and much more.
