Public meeting location: Martha Eddy Room in the Art and Home Center, New York State Fairgrounds, 581 State Fair Boulevard, Syracuse, NY 13209

DEC invites the public to the meeting to learn about a proposed remedy to address contamination related to the Semet Residue Ponds Site (Geddes, Onondaga Co.), within New York's State Superfund Program. Public comments also are welcome at the meeting, and during a public comment period that runs through January 17, 2019.

Before the public meeting, DEC will hold an informal Open House starting at 5:00 PM at the same location.

During this webinar, speakers will discuss an approach to assessing the resilience of multi-family buildings and identify ways to reduce risks through actionable resilience strategies aimed at improving individual building systems. The presenters will provide an overview of resilience assessment tools such as B-READY and FloodHelpNY, resources available through NYSERDA on climate-related hazards, and case study findings from recent pilot projects.

     • Jim Leahy (Senior Consultant, Sustainable Buildings and Communities, DNV GL)
     • Nick Rajkovich (PhD, AIA, Assistant Professor, University at Buffalo)
     • Laurie Schoeman (Senior Program Director, Resilient Communities and Disaster Recovery, Enterprise Community Partners)

Learning Objectives:
     • Understand the need for better protecting vulnerable populations in local communities.
     • Learn about the basic approach for assessing resilience in buildings.
     • Understand strategies multi-family building owners can adopt to minimize the impact from hazardous events.
