DEC invites the public to comment about a proposed remedy to address contamination related to the Qualitrol Company LLC Site (Fairport, Monroe Co.), within New York's Brownfield Cleanup Program. Public comments about the proposal will be accepted through April 16, 2018.

A public meeting also will be held: March 14, 2018 at 6:30 PM at Fairport Public Library, 1 Fairport Village Landing, Fairport, NY 14450.

This workshop will provide a certificate of training that satisfies requirements for one major OSHA standard for individuals working 10 feet or closer to energized conductors. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) has received a Petition for the reclassification of the Loohns Corning site (#851028), from a Class 2 to a Class 4 on the New York State Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Sites. The site is located at 37 East Pulteney Street in the City of Corning, New York. 

Additional information about this site can be found via a Remedial Site Database Search on DEC's website.

Written public comments on the proposed reclassification must be submitted by April 18, 2018 to the contact listed above.

If you enjoy getting outside and want to help maintain healthy wetlands at Reinstein Woods, join our Strike Team! Volunteers are needed to monitor and remove Phragmites australis, an invasive plant also known as common reed. Team members will learn monitoring protocols and removal techniques. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) Invites the Public to Comment on Salmon River (Oswego County) Fisheries Management Plan.

The purpose of this fisheries management plan is to guide efforts and resources toward enhancing the Salmon River's status as New York State's premier, year-round angling destination for lake-run trout and salmon (salmonids) over the next 15 years (2018-2033).

NYS DEC will accept public comments on the draft plan until April 20, 2018. To comment on the plan, send an e-mail with the subject line "Salmon River Fishery Management Plan" to fwfish7@dec.ny.gov or send written comments to the contact listed above.

April 21 marks the 180th anniversary of the birth of John Muir, noted naturalist and author, and April 22 is Earth Day. We’ll celebrate both by reading a picture book about John Muir, going for a walk, and starting our own nature journal to take home, just as he did.
