This public comment period has been postponed indefinitely and will be rescheduled for a later date.

DEC had originally scheduled the comment period to gather comment about a proposed cleanup related to the Nassau Works MGP Site (Brooklyn), within New York's Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Program.

A public meeting that had been scheduled for March 16, 2020 also has been postponed indefinitely and will be rescheduled at a later date.

DEC is hosting a public webinar to discuss potential revisions to the hazardous waste regulations that DEC is considering.

During this webinar staff will talk about the revisions to the hazardous waste regulations that DEC is considering, including an in-depth discussion of EPA's Generator Improvements Rule. This discussion will also focus on state-initiated changes including expanded secondary containment requirements for the storage of liquid hazardous waste and the creation of uniform large quantity generator (LQG) requirements that would apply statewide. DEC would like to encourage stakeholders to participate and provide feedback about these revisions.

Would you like to take a walk in nature, but would rather not go alone?

Join the "Walkers' Club" at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center on Tuesday mornings, 10:30 to 11:30 am.

Participants will gather at the Visitor Center and choose which trail they will walk that morning. This is an opportunity to walk with others and make new friends. These walks are not guided or led by staff. Walkers' Club is a free activity.

DEC has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application and Draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan for a site known as 1760 Boone Avenue, site ID #C203131. This site is located in the Borough of Bronx within the County of Bronx and is located at 1760 Boone Avenue. Public comments about the application and draft work plan must be submitted by April 3, 2020.

Public Comment Period Ends -- Draft New York State Forest Action Plan

The State Forest Action Plan is a 10-year strategic plan that provides long-term, comprehensive, and coordinated strategies for addressing the challenges facing New York's forests today.

DEC released a draft version of the New York State Forest Action Plan in early February. The public is encouraged to comment on the draft Plan through April 3, 2020. DEC will review and address all comments received. The draft Plan and detail on how to submit comment are available on our website.


 RESCHEDULED - DEC Exams Falconry, Wildlife Rehabilitator, & Leashed Tracking Dog

DEC exams for Falconry, Wildlife Rehabilitator, and Leashed Tracking Dog Licenses -- which were originally to be held on April 3 -- have been rescheduled. The exams now are scheduled for August 14, 2020.

The exams are to practice the sport of falconry, become a wildlife rehabilitator, or use leashed tracking dogs to find wounded or injured big game animals. 

DEC will offer these examinations on August 14, 2020, at most DEC Regional Offices. Individuals who previously registered for the April 3 examinations can register for the August examinations by contacting the Special Licenses Unit at 518-402-8985 or SpecialLicenses@dec.ny.gov and request to have their names included for the August exams.

All others who wish to apply for the August exams can visit the DEC Special Licenses Unit website and complete an exam registration form. Applicants can mail, fax, or email the completed form to NYSDEC Special Licenses Unit, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-4752; fax 518-402-8925; email: SpecialLicenses@dec.ny.gov.  For phone inquiries contact 518-402-8985.
