How to Do It:  LEARN TO SNOWSHOE
Never tried snowshoeing before? Now is your chance! We'll go over the basics of how to put snowshoes on (and take them off), walk and turn. We'll go outside to put our new skills to work on a short walk. Snowshoe rental fees are waived. Please register by Wednesday, January 23. The outdoor portion of this program will be conducted on foot if there is insufficient snow.

NYSDEC is proposing change to Part 44 as relating to Jonah Crab. This rule making will establish a minimum size limit of four and three-quarter inches, and allow for the commercial harvest of claws in addition to whole crabs. It will also modify definitions of gear and escape panels for crab pots.

WHO: Programs are for adults and pre-school children.

WHAT: Adults (parent, grandparent, or guardian) and children (ages 2-4) together will take part in exploring the natural world during different seasons of the year. Each 1 ½ hour session will begin with the sharing of a story book on a nature topic. Participants will take part in an outdoor activity that is suggested by the book. After their guided walk, they will return indoors to take part in a craft or take-home project.

WHEN: Each session will take place over a 4 week period. Participants may come either on Tuesday or on Wednesday. (Both days will be identical. Please commit to either Tuesday or Wednesday.) Sessions run from 10:00 to 11:30 am. You may sign up for as many sessions as you like.

EXTRA: Participants will keep an age-appropriate record of their nature adventures and will be sent an e-mail before each meeting day. The e-mails will be a reminder and a picture clue of what that week's adventure will be.

SNOW DATES: Feb 12 or Feb 13

COST: 4 week Session: Basic session fee = $25.00 + Material fee per child per session of $10.00

This notice announces the availability of a DRAFT Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) document proposed by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) to address the following waterbody:

Honeoye Lake, Ontario County
Honeoye Lake is impaired for phosphorus. 

States are required by Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act and the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (US EPA) implementing regulations (40CFR Part 130) to develop TMDL plans for waterbodies and pollutants where water quality standards are not being met.

Honeoye Lake is one of the New York State Governor's 12 Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Priority Lakes. The HABs Action Plan and the TMDL are aligned. As part of the strategy to alleviate HABs in the Lake, NYS DEC has retained a contractor to develop Aeration and Nutrient Inactivation Plans to be implemented in the Lake.

A Public Meeting to discuss the findings of the TMDL and to answer questions will be held as follows:
